Background

Sonia has extensive experience in assessment and treatment of children, youth and adults. As a clinical psychologist she specialises in assessment and treatment of a range of difficulties that may be impacting on an individual’s functioning and/or sense of wellbeing.
Sonia currently works part-time at Maternal, Infant, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (MICAMHS), Bay of Plenty District Health Board (BOPDHB), with individuals who have a range of difficulties including challenging behaviour, attachment problems, eating disorders, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), selective mutism, anxiety disorders, mood disorders and trauma.
Sonia has previously worked in Maternal Mental Health, Brain Injury Rehabilitation, Department of Corrections and Adult Community Mental Health.
Sonia has a longstanding interest in working with individuals who suffer from a range of eating difficulties including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder and avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) and is currently a consultant with the New Zealand Eating Disorders Clinic (NZEDC). Sonia also has a strong interest in neuropsychology, child, adolescent and family concerns, relationships and trauma.
Sonia is registered as a treatment provider for ACC to provide therapy for clients who have experienced sexual violence. Sonia also provides primary mental health care to clients referred through the Primary Health Organisation (PHO).
